A great vegetarian soup recipe is not just all about preparing your appetite for a healthy vegetarian meal - it should be healthy as well. (...)

A great vegetarian soup recipe is not just all about preparing your appetite for a healthy vegetarian meal - it should be healthy as well. To help you come up with some of your very own vegetarian soup recipe, here are some tips.

Experiment

There are no clear cut rules to coming up with your own vegetarian soup recipe. You just have to follow the preliminary basics and then let your imagination rule. This means that you may just have to sauté the usual garlic, onions and your choice of vegetables, add the soup stock or vegetable broth and then add whatever you like including spices. If you are preparing a cold and raw vegetarian soup recipe, then you can experiment by swapping some ingredients like watermelon for tomatoes or vice versa.

The only general rule is to basically respect your taste buds and whoever you are cooking for. It would be better though to reserve experimentation on your free days and simply use tested soup recipes on regular days when you have little time.

Be Generous with Spices

Sometimes all you need to make a flavorful vegetarian soup recipe is to add a little green onion, celery or carrots sauted with onions. Other soup recipes however may need a little more than the usual herbs and spices. Try a few mixes like oregano and rosemary; pepper and lemon or pepper and lemon grass. You can also use other spices like cayenne and cumin. One tip with vegetarian soup recipe seasoning is to use an appropriate amount or mix of spices so you can cut back on salt.

Thicken the Soup

Another factor that will turn your vegetarian soup into a success is its texture. Texture may of course be improved by thickening the soup. One secret of oriental cooks is that they use flour or cornstarch to thicken a vegetarian soup recipe instead of using milk. Some would suggest adding a precise number of parts of flour or cornstarch to water but sometimes you just have to make an estimate.

To put more texture or thickness to your soup, simply add a small amount of cornstarch. Simply mix a small amount of cornstarch with some warm water and then slowly pour the mixture while stirring in soup that is just about ready to be taken out of the fire.

Convert

To make the soup tastier, add other ingredients. Aside from spices, pepper and green onions, you can also add a bit of soy sauce to give your soup some flavor. Beans can also add to the flavor of your vegetarian soup recipe and even supply much needed protein which others normally get from meat. Aside from beans, peas, lentils and squash are also tasty additions to vegetarian soup.

Freezing Soup

One good thing about soups is that it can be prepared ahead of time and simply frozen and preserved for the next day. Just make sure that before you freeze soup, you allow it to cool completely first. Have it chilled so that you can remove excess oil before transferring it to small containers for freezing. Makes sure there is some extra space in your container after the soup has been transferred to allow the liquid to expand.

Most people are finding it hard to come by easy vegetarian recipes and so they simply give up on being vegetarians despite its health benefits. (...)

Most people are finding it hard to come by easy vegetarian recipes and so they simply give up on being vegetarians despite its health benefits. In some cases, the need to find an easy vegetarian recipe is motivated not just by the need to really find one but to satisfy curiosity as well. Is there really such a thing as an easy vegetarian recipe?

The Value of Cooking at Home

It may be tempting to simply just go to a vegetarian restaurant for an easy vegetarian recipe if you are new at your vegetarian diet. Most of us know however that there are great advantages to cooking meals at home. Home cooked meals are almost always cheaper to prepare and have the additional benefit of binding members of a family in a comfortable atmosphere. One other major plus factor for you as a vegetarian is that you are 100% sure of the cleanliness of your vegetables and what exactly goes into a dish.

Knowing What Type You Belong To

First, identify what kind of vegetarian you are. The most common type of vegetarian is the lacto-ovo-vegetarians who eat vegetables, fruits, eggs and dairy products. A lacto vegetarian eats the same kinds of food except for the eggs.

Strict vegetarians are called vegans and do not eat anything that comes from an animal or any animal based foods. There are other kinds of vegetarians but these are the most common. Once you know where you, your family and your friends belong to, finding an easy vegetarian recipe will be easier.

The Recipe Myth

A lot of non-vegetarians have the common misconception that vegetarian recipes are either hard to come across or are complicated to prepare. Since most vegetarians also lead busy lives, this may seem discouraging. There is however no truth to this common belief. In fact, some vegetarian recipes are the easiest to prepare.

For one, you can simply blend or puree fruits and vegetables to keep it fresh and fibrous. Less strict vegetarians however also have a variety of choices. For lacto-ovo-vegetarians for example the only thing that needs to be omitted are meat products and meat based products. This means that you can basically saute or steam anything you like as long as there isn't any meat in it. For a truly substantial, tasty and healthy easy vegetarian recipe, you can substitute meat with tofu, beans, legumes and nuts.

Stocking

It is advisable for vegetarians to stock variety of fruits, vegetables, grains and dairy products at home. Aside from the usual fruits and vegetables, you can also stock up on spices, seeds, olive oil, pasta, rice, cereal and noodles. Just imagine what you can cook up even with just these basic ingredients. An easy vegetarian recipe can be as convenient as sautéing some vegetables, spices, beans, tomato sauce and topping it on rice.

Washing

Always remember to properly wash and clean all fruits and vegetables with inedible peelings. Most of these food items have changed hands so often before reaching you that they're bound to carry some dirt or bacteria. Wash your food with running water and use a brush for fruits and vegetables with dimpled, corrugated or hard skins.

If you are a vegetarian who is ready to move to the next level of health consciousness, raw veganism may be right for you. If used properly, it can be a very healthy diet, and there are many raw vegan recipes that can help you get started.

If you don't know the right places to look, it can be difficult to find raw vegan recipes. Raw recipes are not always vegan, and most rationally vegan recipes are not raw. However, they are easier than ever to find online.

A great way to discover raw vegan recipes is simply to invent them. Because there is no heating of food involved, and most ingredients are vegetables, it can be easy and satisfying to create your own recipes.

For more complex raw vegan recipes you can find them on food website, and on vegan forums. They may be more complex and include complex preparation, but they will include many different tastes and textures.

You can also turn to raw food cookbooks. While many of the recipes in these books may not be vegan, there will be several vegan recipes. And you can find inspirations for combinations which may work for you.

Ask a Friend

If you're looking for more personal advice, ask a friend who is into the raw food movement. Even if they are not a raw vegan, they will still likely have several raw vegan recipes that they could share with you.

If you have several friends who are into raw foods, you can have a raw food dinner party. This can be a great way to exchange raw vegan recipes, try new dishes, and make some new friends who share your interests.

The Hakka noodles can make a wholesome meal on its own. All this is typical of Indo Chinese cooking. Like any place and any cuisine, food is usually modified to suit local preferences. Indo-Chinese cuisine is one of the very popular cuisines of India. Chinese cuisine, modified to suit the Indian palate has been a favorite amongst the more modern Indian crowd since decades.

Here's a delicious and easy Hakka noodles recipe that will work. Your child is sure to eat this complete meal without any fuss, believe me this is a tried and tested recipe of a desperate mom. Have the ingredients assembled near the stove so you can cook the dish quickly. Make the vinegar sauce a day in advance and refrigerate it. Serve the noodles with the vinegar mixture and soy sauce.

Preparation of Hakka noodles

• Cut the spring onions into 1/4" pieces. • Grind red chilies and garlic. • Heat oil in a pan, add chilly and garlic and fry for a minute. • Now add capsicum and fry till it tenders. • Put spring onion and continue frying for 2-3 minutes more. • Now add noodles and salt (to taste) and mix well. • Add tandoori colour and vinegar (to taste) and cook well.

Hakka Noodles, usually served as a main course, are stir-fried with cabbage, carrots, red bell peppers, and snow peas. I really like the food at this place which serves Hakka food. The noodle dish that takes its name from the Chinese province of Hakka is one of the more popular Indian-Chinese dishes. Some popular dishes include dumplings in a hot, sweet, and sour sauce; Chinese fried rice, a spicier and more Indian-like version of the classic dish; chili cauliflower, marinated in hot peppers and garlic and deep-fried; and Hakka noodles. Please purchase online www.indomunch.com in NewYork city.

There is a common misconception that vegetarians only have very limited recipes allowed them. On the contrary, there are so many options available for easy healthy vegetarian recipes. (...)

There is a common misconception that vegetarians only have very limited recipes allowed them. On the contrary, there are so many options available for easy healthy vegetarian recipes. The wealth of choices actually makes vegetarianism an exciting journey into healthy food. Here are some things you need to remember when preparing easy healthy vegetarian recipes.

Check the Label

Stocking up ahead on sauces and ingredients is one of the most convenient way of putting together a healthy recipe. This way you just have to open packs and cans when you need to whip up something fast. This is generally a good idea especially if you're thinking of canned beans, salsa sauce, dried peas, canned mushrooms and tomato sauce.

You should however always make it a point to read labels before adding unfamiliar ingredients to easy healthy vegetarian recipes. Some products may seem vegetarian but may contain animal based ingredients like gelatin and animal oil. Pure vegans might also want to find out if instant foods contain cheese, milk and other dairy products.

Cook the Same Way

Vegetarian and regular recipes are similar. The only thing lacking is meat. This means that you just have to cook like you always do. Just have a little knowledge to supplement your nutrients and a little creativity to make easy healthy vegetarian recipes as tasty as meat dishes.

Poultry substitute can be found in beans, legumes, soy-based products and nuts. Calcium can be obtained from milk and green leafy vegetables. To make your easy healthy vegetarian recipes especially tasty you can experiment with herbs and spices like chilies, oregano, thyme, rosemary and basil.

Don't Overdo Plain Dishes

There is absolutely nothing wrong with serving steamed vegetables, corn and peas. They are also obviously easy healthy vegetarian recipes. Sometimes though, you might want to cut back on these basic dishes so that your family doesn't get too bored with the same taste. Serve the same dishes but maybe you can sauté these food items first with some tasty onions, garlic and some pepper.

Serve Healthy Snacks

In some cases, all it takes to prepare and serve better recipes is a little more time. To make sure that your family members don't come home hungry and ready for a big meal at six, serve them healthy snacks to delay their craving for dinner. Pack some nuts, dried fruits, fruit mixes, crackers and cheese for them to take to school or work.

Serve Raw and Simple

Raw vegetarianism is another way of maximizing the greatest source of healthy nutrients from your recipe. You might want to try one night in seven as a raw night. Raw foods are considered healthy because they lose none of their nutrients through heat in the cooking process. More rigid raw eaters simply blend fruits and vegetables. You may however just want to settle for simple salads with delicious dips and sauces.

Every meal of the day can be interesting and exciting, but if there is one meal that I tend to be most creative with, it is dinner. (...)

Every meal of the day can be interesting and exciting, but if there is one meal that I tend to be most creative with, it is dinner. I suppose the setting of the sun has an energy about it that encourages one to draw inwards and create from within a space of mystery and wonder. At least, it seems to have that effect on me!

Being a health-conscious vegetarian, I am always on the look-out for low-calorie vegetarian recipes that excite me in the first instance and impress my guests. I get a real buzz out of seeing their faces break out in awe and delight when they sit down to a meal that offers a rich assortment of colors and textures. And I am almost instantly forgiven for counting my calories and refraining from meat!

Besides, have you noticed how satisfying it is when you have a meal that is made up of different textures – smooth and creamy, soft and fluffy and crunchy and crumbly? Well, as you can see, the four, low-calorie, vegetarian recipes below provide all those textures to satisfy all those taste-buds.

For an entrée, you can't go wrong with the versatile avocado. Prepare this dish ahead of time, leaving it in the fridge to set and cool.

Avocado Tantalizer (Smooth and creamy)

    * 1 avocado * Fresh herb e.g. chocolate mint or mint * ½ teaspoon honey * 1 cup low-fat yoghurt, ricotta or thickened cream * Salt to taste * Herb and glazed cherries to decorate * Fresh ginger for that extra zing!

Put everything in a blender. Pour into cocktail glasses. Decorate with herb and glazed cherries. Cool in fridge!

Another great favorite entrée of mine is this drop-dead gorgeous, made-in-no-time teaser! I've never seen anyone able to resist it!

Pineapple Blush

Fresh or canned pineapple cut into 1-inch squares.

Fresh mint

Glazed cherries

Simply stack each pineapple square with one mint leaf, followed by half a cherry. Spike through with a toothpick. Arrange on a plate and keep cool.

Alright, so that's the entree taken care of. Now for the main course. You'll notice that these carefully selected ingredients come together in rather unusual but delightful ways…

Creamy pasta (Soft and fluffy)

    * Oat-bran pasta (star or small shell-shaped ones are particularly attractive) * ½ cup mushrooms, sliced small (optional) * 1 tablespoon olive oil * ½ teaspoon honey * 1 teaspoon apple vinegar (or your favorite vinegar) * ½ cup low-fat ricotta (strained for a smoother texture) * Garlic, pressed * Fresh (or dried) chopped herbs eg basil, parsley and coriander * Sea salt to taste

Cook the pasta till quite soft. When nearly done add the mushrooms if used. Drain. Add all the other ingredients and toss. Serve warm with the salad below.

Salad delight (Crunchy and crumbly)

    * 150g spinach or lettuce * ½ cup pre-cooked chickpeas (or canned if you must) * 2 tablespoons olive oil * ½ red onion, chopped * 3 tablespoons almond flakes or walnuts * Garlic, pressed * 1 dried red chilled, roughly chopped (optional but provides a lovely kick) * 2 tablespoons apple vinegar or fresh lemon juice * Sea salt to taste * 1 teaspoon dry roasted sesame seeds (optional but ever so nice!) * 2 tablespoons coconut cream (optional but such a treat)

If you're looking to get started on a vegetarian diet, chances are you're concerned about your falling back to meat-eating habits somewhere in the middle. (...)

If you're looking to get started on a vegetarian diet, chances are you're concerned about your falling back to meat-eating habits somewhere in the middle. Many people who begin on this journey do. To prevent yourself from going back, you need to have a deep conviction inside about why you want to be a vegetarian. The reasons are as diverse as there are people, but if it's on your mind to make this change of diet, then there must be a reason that will appeal to you the most. Once you're convinced deep down inside that it is the right thing to do, those meat dishes in your friend's party will not seem tempting at all, and it will be easy to stick to your chosen path.

So why is it important to be a vegetarian? First and foremost, there are important health benefits in a vegetarian diet. Several research studies suggest a link between longevity and a vegetarian diet. According to a study by the Loma Linda University, vegetarians live almost seven years longer, and vegans almost fifteen years longer, than meat eaters. A vegetarian diet can help in reducing risk of cancer and cardio-vascular disease. Fruits and vegetables are full of antioxidant nutrients that protect the heart and its arteries. Animal food products are loaded with dietary saturated fat and cholesterol. An average American male on a meat-based diet has a 50 percent chance of dying from heart diseases. A study of a group of French vegetarians found that they had a daily intake of 25 percent less fat than non-vegetarians. Some of the other proven health benefits of a vegetarian diet include significantly reduced rates of obesity, coronary heart disease, hypertension, constipation, and gallstones.

Secondly, the mass production of meat is environmentally damaging, and unsustainable, and going vegetarian can help restore the planet's health. Approximately 70 percent of the grain crop in the US is used for feeding animals being raised for food. It takes 15 pounds of feed to generate 1 pound of meat, and if the grain were given directly to people, there would be enough food to feed the entire planet. According to a study, the inefficiencies in the production of meat, milk, and eggs range from 4:1 to 54:1 energy input to protein output ratio, when tracking animal food production from feed to consumption Hence the production of animal foods is much less energy efficient than harvesting of grains, vegetables, legumes, and fruits. Animal farming also generates significant amounts of nitrous oxide and methane, which have a significant impact on global warming. Also, it is estimated that a pound of beef takes 2,500 gallons of water, while a pound of wheat takes 25. Hence, production of meat leads to wastage, andrampant water pollution.

A vegetarian diet can protect you from food-borne illnesses. Vegetarianism reduces the risk of E.coli infection. It is estimated that approximately five percent of cows slaughtered in America for meat contain the lethal O157:H7 strain of E.coli, which can even lead to death. Also, there have been various animal food safety scares over the last few years, including avian influenza in poultry, mad cow disease in cows, foot-and-mouth disease in sheep, and mercury in fish. Therefore, being vegetarian can protect you from several such diseases.

Another important reason to be vegetarian is that it is ethical. Each day, 22 million animals are slaughtered in America to produce meat. The entire life of a captive animal raised for meat is unnatural, and involves abnormal diets for fattening, hormonal stimulation, and the eventual killing, which are totally unnecessary. If animal rights concern you, then a vegetarian diet is a natural choice.

A vegetarian diet can help you save money. Replacing chicken, meat, and fish with vegetables and fruits is estimated to help save close to $ 4,000 a year. Hence it makes economic sense as well to convert to a vegetarian diet.

There are compelling reasons to turn vegetarian, and the question you should be asking yourself is not why, but why not? With obvious benefits for your health and the planet's, and being a better economic choice, it is no wonder that there is growing interest in vegetarianism today.

If you are truly interested and committed then try switching over gradually. Don't try to quit cold turkey (no pun intended). Try eliminating one type of meat at a time. Then you will gradually be able to eliminate all the meat from your diet.

Over this time period introduce and increase the number of Vegetarian meals that you consume. You can find some incredible vegetarian cookbooks online and at your local bookstore that are filled with delicious recipes.

Just remember to start slow and take your time. To give you a little push here are some incredible benefits of a vegetarian diet as compared to an orthodox diet.

The Benefits of a Vegetarian Lifestyle

Vegetarian diets, when well chosen, are linked to a reduction in the incidence of chronic diseases. And they are more conducive to better health than your average, orthodox diet.

Chronic Diseases and Vegetarian Diets:

1. Obesity. Among vegetarians there is less obesity. Vegetarians consume more fiber-rich bulky foods so fewer calories are consumed.

2. High Blood Pressure. Vegetarian lifestyle is void of smoking and drinking alcohol. This in combination with regular exercise decreases blood pressure. Also, a vegetarian diet that is low in fat, saturated fats, high in fiber, fruits, and vegetables may also contribute to lowered blood pressure.

3. Heart Disease. Vegetarian diets call for fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and soybeans as a replacement for meat (which is much higher in saturated fats and much lower in fiber, antioxidants). This contributes to a healthy heart. High fiber also helps the digestive tract.

4. Cancer. Meats and other foods not consumed in a vegetarian diet can produce carcinogens which can lead to Cancer.

There are many other benefits to a vegetarian lifestyle:

1. It's humane as it saves animals from being slaughtered for food.

2. Saves money (as meat is expensive)

Less demanding on the environment

Have you recently become a vegetarian? Have you found that you are limited to eating only a few recipes compared to what you used to when you did eat meat? (...)

Have you recently become a vegetarian? Have you found that you are limited to eating only a few recipes compared to what you used to when you did eat meat? Don't be dismayed because there are a few vegetarian dishes that you can enjoy and they can even be as delicious as Italian pasta. Try out this vegetarian lasagna recipe and satisfy your palate today.

Step 1

First thing you will want to prepare is the ingredients. For a healthy vegetarian lasagna recipe, you will need 1 fresh eggplant, 1 pack of frozen spinach, 1 pack of lasagna noodles, 1 pack of low-fat cottage cheese, 1 jar of meatless sauce, one pack of mozzarella cheese, salt and pepper, some tomatoes, and parsley flakes. Remember that the mozzarella cheese must be light and as non-fattening as can be. These ingredients can all be found in your local supermarket.

Step 2

What you will want to do next for the vegetarian lasagna recipe is defrost the pack of spinach that you have. When defrosting the spinach, it might end up really soggy so try to drain as much water from it as you can. Using a clean cloth might help you do this or you can also use a colander.

Step 3

The eggplant that you bought is whole so you will have to slice it into thin pieces. These pieces should be thin but thick enough that they can be cooked easy. Lay the pieces on a piece of cloth so that you can salt them. Then put another cloth on top of the first one to salt some of the remaining pieces that you might have left.

Step 4

For this vegetarian lasagna recipe to be perfect, you have to cook it right. Place a heavy pan on a cookie sheet on top of the stove and then let it heat for about one to two hours. Then you can cook the lasagna noodles in this heavy pan until they are tender. While doing this you can mix the cottage cheese with spinach in a bowl and then add salt and pepper until you feel it suits your taste buds.

Step 5

This is probably the most difficult part in cooking your vegetarian lasagna recipe. You will need a casserole pan that has sauce spread out evenly inside it. Then add a layer of the lasagna noodles that you just cooked with another layer of eggplant, some sauce, cottage cheese, the mix of spinach that you made, and then top it off with one more layer of lasagna noodles. Do this again until you are satisfied with the thickness of your lasagna.

Step 6

This is the final and easiest step in the process. All you have to do is top off the final layer with mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce, and an even layer of thinly sliced and peeled tomatoes. Lastly, sprinkle it with parsley flakes.

This vegetarian lasagna recipe needs to be baked and you will need to prepare your oven at about 350 degrees. Place the dish inside the oven for about an hour or until you notice that the eggplant is brown and soft because this will mean that you can now eat it. You can't go wrong with this simple vegetarian lasagna recipe dish.

Preparing easy vegetarian meals can be exciting if you know what to prepare. With several free and easy vegetarian recipes on the internet, you'll hardly run out of recipe to try everyday. (...)

Preparing easy vegetarian meals can be exciting if you know what to prepare. With several free and easy vegetarian recipes on the internet, you'll hardly run out of recipe to try everyday. More importantly though, there are simple things you need to remember to come up with easy vegetarian meals.

Complete Stocks

Stock up on vegetarian food that your family can eat. Always make sure that your grocery list contains different kinds of grains, cereals, pastas, pita bread, whole wheat breads, fruits and vegetables as well as some extras like spices. As an added tip, you might want to repack some of your veggies ahead of time especially peas, corn and beans into serving packs. This way you just have to grab pre packed veggies for the right number of servings for salads and recipes

Instants

There are some vegetarians who would rather prepare fresh meals than stocking up on ready-to-cook preparations from the store. It is true that fresh is almost always best. If you are really in a hurry though, you and your family might just benefit from an occasional instant meal. There are lots of easy vegetarian meals that you just need to pop in an oven. Examples would be veggie burger patties and frozen veggie pizzas.

For freshly-cooked easy veggie meals, you can always opt for oven-ready lasagna noodles, canned beans, tortillas, bottled pickles and ready-made sauces.

Simple Recipes

If you can't keep the urge of cooking at bay, then be sure that you have a ready book of easy vegetarian meals. Of course, the easiest meal would be salads. Simply toss some greens, nuts, carrots, cucumber, tomatoes and cheese and you have you'll always have easy vegetarian meals. You might also want to have an occasional raw day when you just have to blend some fruits and vegetables for a satisfying meal. It would be a great idea though to increase the appetite boost of a good salad with some soup or an easy to cook pot meal like chili peppers and beans.

Leftovers

There are certain leftover foods that you may want to consider to make easy vegetarian food. Bread, potatoes, rice, carrots, quinoa, beans and different kinds of soup are some of the items that freeze well. When cooking for the day's meal, simply cook a double serving, freeze the extra and then heat for another day. If you're family members are not picky eaters, then you can always inform them ahead of time that some days in a week are designated leftover days.

Plan

Planning is always half the work done. Take a few minutes off on a weekend to draft a complete weekly plan for all your meals so that you would at least know exactly what you need to shop for.

Help

Be ready to learn new things if you still find yourself lacking with easy vegetarian recipes. Spend some time every month to brush up on new meal ideas from cookbooks or online vegetarian sites for new creative ways to prepare easy meals.
